On January 19, UCLA Circle K members woke up extra early excited to volunteer in the 2020 Rose Bowl Rush Kids Run. We arrived with more than enough time to register and mingle with other volunteers from other organizations. The amazing staff gave us all our volunteer t-shirts and a delicious breakfast to get fuelled before we met the kids that would participate in the race. We were split up into partners and posted at different lengths between the start and finish line so we could constantly cheer the kids on. Finally, the time came and all the kids lined up by age groups. They stretched and danced and although the parents were more excited than the kids they were anxious to just get moving forward already. The 8 to 6 years old went first then the 5 to 4 years old and finally the 3 years old and under. Most sprinted off towards the finish line crossing all of 1/4th of a mile and others threw tantrums for their parents to carry them to the finish line. The kids got their medals and took many pictures with their proud families. Next year I’m definitely considering taking my 4-year-old brother and putting him in the kid’s marathon to help him build some athletic spirit.
