On a Friday evening, I walked around the UCLA campus with my CKI friends and picked up trash left lying around--this is our campus cleanup event! We moved together as a group and helped each other spot and pick up trash and recyclable materials. We mainly covered the areas that were expected to have more trash, such as the dining areas and the main walkway. Surprisingly, there was less trash than we expected, which is good news of course! Nonetheless, we had a successful cleanup as we were able to collect a significant amount of trash. Personally, I felt grateful that I had this opportunity of cleaning up the campus. I believe that this campus should have a nice and clean atmosphere and I think our efforts were able to contribute to this. It was also really fun to be able to do this with fellow club members! Overall, I really enjoyed this event and would definitely do it again next time!

Be a Kid Again
by Ryan Fang, 2019-2020 Member Development and Education Chair On January 12th, members of UCLA Circle K went to LA Family Housing’s Pacoima Transitional Shelter to support Be A Kid Again, a weekly children’s event where children at the Transitional Shelter have an opportunity to hang out and play with other children and volunteers. Volunteers played soccer, football, basketball, and made crafts with the kids. Overall, it was incredibly exciting to form bonds with the kids and their parents. They told interesting stories and had a unique and refreshing perspective on life. You could tell that they truly appreciated the event because when it was time to go, the kids cried and tugged at our hands. |
