On Saturday, January 25th my club and I attended the Ace of Hearts dog adoption event in LA. Obviously, many of us were attracted to the idea of helping at an event centered around fluffy friends—who wouldn’t want to play with dogs all afternoon? The event was definitely more than just petting animals, but it was still overall a wonderful and rewarding experience. We brought down supplies and prepped for the event, some of us kept dogs company by their kennels once they arrived, and some of us, including myself, held colorful signs by the street and collected donations from Angelinos’ car windows. It was so heartening to see how many people were willing to donate their spare change to helping save rescue animals from high kill shelters. Helping provide the human power necessary to keep the event running smoothly, being able to smile and thank someone for contributing to the cause, and connecting with volunteers from other organizations besides CKI made for a great day of service.
